Today I wanted to share how the kids and I made our own DIY Thankful Tree. Oh, and thanks to sales this project cost was less than $15. It’s really really simple, but the kids and I spent 90 minutes tracing and cutting and listening to classical music while we “prepped” our leaves for the month- having it all done and tucked into the milk crate box creates no excuses for taking 5 minutes to write and tie on a thankful leaf each night. Enjoy some inspiration and Happy November!

Items needed:

Decorative Milk Crate {hurry and see if you can snag one from Michaels on sale!}
Decorative branches of your choice
Vase
Colored construction paper
String
Small pumpkins (optional)

I eyed the milk crate at Michaels last weekend and held out… November 1st: 80% OFF all Fall and Halloween décor, so I grabbed it! I was hoping to find the branches for the tree there too but they were either way too long or they were to Christmas-y. I don’t skip Thanksgiving 😉 After store hopping 2 more places we happened to be next door to Gordman’s so we thought we’d try there and sure enough right inside the door we found what we were looking for! The small pumpkins shown in the picture we grabbed for $2 on our trip to the pumpkin patch!

We arranged the branches in our vase like we wanted (which I already had) and then the kids traced and cut leaf shapes out of construction paper (fall colored!), cut small pieces of string – enough for all month long and put each pile into an empty compartment in the milk crate.

The kids enjoy making a YouTube video as we went so they could share it 🙂 You can find that HERE if you would like to watch the process (it’s less than 5 minutes long)DIY Thankful TreeIsn’t it pretty!?! I also plan on doubling up and using this for my Thanksgiving Dinner centerpiece!!!
