Embracing the Slow during COVID-19

At first, the initial shut down did not seem to change our daily life. We already homeschool, we are not currently active with any sports or clubs, and my husband still was traveling. As the weeks went by and the grocery store panic and empty shelves, social distancing made it impossible to get together with friends, the library is still closed, I did have a bit of emotional shock.

Embracing this slow season I believe has been both hard and energizing to families- ours included, even though we didn’t have as much of initial shock.

I have always said good morning to the each child as they wake, but I know stop to note the look on their sleepy face or how my toddler lights up when he sees the baby already awake.

I have embraced the blessing of my pantry. Do I wish it was more stocked? Yes. But instead of complaining I cleaned off the shelves and reorganized it. We have also enjoyed many ‘new’ (simple) meals together during quarantine.

The warm weathered days. Oh, we embraced them whole heartedly. We have always enjoyed nature walks, but my husband and I have commented on how many more people/ families we have seen take advantage also. I hope they continue when life is “back to normal.”

We have embraced card games during the bad weather days. Who knew kids could crap talk so much while playing UNO card game?!

We have simply embraced bird watching out our front window. Birds are making their way back for the summer and have noticed a new-to-our-yard bird species. We have even YouTube the specific bird sounds so we can recognize the birds that visit us.

We have embraced home haircuts.

We have embraced our garden seeds again this year.

We’ve embraced multiple movie nights per week.

Some days quarantine is hard and some days it’s easy.
We’re in this together.
