Spread the love

Fill Your Freezer day five already! If you’re new- the month of February I take the time to cook and freeze our favorite meals, snacks, sauces, and other components to make meals.

Today is one of the kids’ favorite breakfasts- baked oatmeal. I’ve seen it a lot of recipes floating around pinterest lately but we have been making it for years.

Why We Like Baked Oatmeal

It has a different texture than traditional hot oatmeal (which we eat too!), can be made the night before (which is what I do), it’s versatile to change the flavors, and it freezes amazing. It’s also great as a snack and can be made up in a muffin tin for an on the go snack (I also tell people to use silicone liners) !

Changing the Flavor

We love the traditional recipe, but also like :

-adding 1/2 can of pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice
-chocolate chips
-1/4 cup of peanut butter
-mashed banana
-blueberries
…. really, the combinations are endless!

I originally got the recipe from Money Saving Mom. Over the years I have tweaked it- I add less sugar, coconut oil instead of butter, etc. Maybe I should make a post for all recipe adaptions I have made!?!!

I’ll be back on Monday to let you know what I was able to tuck into the freezer over the weekend.
