Thank goodness today is grocery day! Eating more fresh, whole foods has meant we go through what seems like more food! Maybe that’s true but I can only buy so much produce if I want it to fit in my fridge. [Buying more whole foods has been a better on our grocery budget too rather than trying to buy allergy replacements like dairy free cheese or specially gluten free crackers].
It’s also exciting to see the kids trying and some liking new foods – recently lentils, cabbage and kiwis. Not everyone liked all the new things, but enough did to put it into food rotation! Grocery day is like an adventure for them to see “what’s new.”
Anyways – back to filling our freezer! Since we are grocery shopping today I was able to add some ripe bananas to the freezer. Lately I have been buy double the amount of bananas just to be able to get a couple into the freezer. We have been making a lot of smoothies lately even though it’s February. Our current favorite smoothie includes bananas, cherries, flaxseed, frozen spinach, and a dairy free milk.
Tip: Cut your bananas into the same number of pieces, always. Both my husband and kids know that in our house 3 frozen bananas peices equal a whole banana!
Remember, I am focusing on stocking the freezer with family favorites and item that I already know my family will eat!
