Fill Your Freezer: February 8

Are you having fun filling your freezer? I’m enjoying mine fill up with ready to bake food and today I have another one for you!

I used my pizza dough recipe to make some homemade pigs and in a blanket. Let the dough rise, them roll out and cut into strips.

I used a package of smoked sausage instead of hot dogs here, but feel free to use what you have/what is on sale.

Wrap the dough strips around, and place seam side down on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Place into the freezer for an hour to flash freeze and then place into a labeled gallon freezer bag (or freezer friendly container).

If baking right away I like to brush with a little oil (or an egg) to get a golden brown crust and a little sprinkle of garlic salt. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes or golden brown.

Happy Freezer Cooking!

Fill Your Freezer: February 5

Another day, another soup for Fill Your freezer February series!
I was inspired by the Toscano Soup we enjoy, but used up other vegetables we had in the fridge – carrots and a daikon radish (which has a potato type texture when cooked).

We had a soup and sandwich lunch and put the rest to the freezer!

I’ll be back on Monday to share what I was able to tuck away in the freezer over the weekend. What is your favorite freezer friendly soup?

Fill Your Freezer: February 4

Today I made Pulled Pork to fill my freezer!

It takes a few minutes to prep, but then it cooks slow and low in the oven and ends up being perfect tender and multiple ways to use it!

Of course I doubled it! One for dinner and one to freezer. Doing things this way while trying to fill your freezer is a big time saver and sanity saver since there isn’t “extra” work – in the sense of having to set aside specific ingredients or extra time throughout our busy days.

February Challenge: Fill Your Freezer Update

fill your freezer

These monthly challenges were created to help me actually achieve my Goals /New Years Resolutions for 2018. Fill Your Freezer helps me stay in our grocery budget, keeps us from the drive through, and as we all know, healthier! Not only am I teaching my kids to cook but I’m jumping in and learning things I’ve been too scared to try and finding new foods that we enjoy. I hope this encourages you as much as it keeps me motivated! (more…)

Fill Your Freezer Day 21-24

Well to say this year’s Fill Your Freezer has been a challenge would be an accurate statement.

I have not been able to get anything else into the freezer this last few days. Actually I have been pulling out the very items I used in this freezer challenge to get through these last few days! I guess I should have done more freezer cooking during the end of my pregnancy. We ate through almost all of it in the last 2 months. Definitely was a huge help post partum I just underestimating how much time I actually spend in the kitchen has lead to pulling out freezer items more often!

I suppose I will be needing more than the month of February to get me freezer stocked up! I may have to do freezer cooking round up post next month as an update but I wanted to write this post to give a real life, real time update!

How have you been doing to fill your freezer?!

Fill Your Freezer Day 18

Over halfway through the month! If you are new around here and don’t know what this Fill Your Freezer Febraury is about, here is a recap: In February I focus on getting items into my freezer that I already know my family will eat and doing so without going over my normal grocery budget. I focus on making items from scratch- anything from homemade biscuits to homemade bone broth. I don’t always focus on just meals- but having some of the components needed to make meals is just as convient as having a stack of crockpot meals or instant pot meals. The whole idea is to make meal time easier in the future- whether that would be pulling out some snacks for a playdate, having smoothie items ready for a quick breakfast, or having the dinner protein pre cooked. There is no “this is the only way” approach – think about what will help you and your family.

Fill Your Freezer Day 10

We’re on Day 10 of Fill Your Freezer February. This month I focus on getting meals and items into my freezer that I know my family actually enjoys eating.

I baked up some scones for breakfast yesterday and realized, just like my buttermilk biscuits, scones freeze perfectly!

Scones can be made into many different flavor variations but I did a simple scone recipe and added cinnamon. I use this scone recipe.

We enjoy scones and tea sometimes while doing homeschool, because we can 😉

Feel free to share what you have tucked in your freezer lately!
